Unable to perform publicly after becoming environmentally ill, I turned the camera on myself. My previous work had been very materials-intensive but I could no longer work with huge yardages of fabric, dye, metals or use a sewing machine. I was forced to turn to the natural environment and use what was available to me: soil, plant matter, roots, bone fragments and what scraps of fabric my body could tolerate.
